Issues with Combining Base Model and SS Turbo Donor

There are a few differences between the base model donors and the turbocharged SS donors. Because of this, it isn't an easy task combining a base model donor with the SS/TC equipment.

Here are some of the issues:

  • ECM - The base and TC ECMs are different items so it isn't as simple as flashing the base ECM to work with an SS/TC engine. You would need a TC ECM.
  • Fuel pump - The turbo fuel pump is larger and designed to work with the direct injection fuel system of the SS/TC engine. You would need the TC ECM and our SS/TC fuel tank.
  • Wiring harness - The SS/TC wiring harness has additional wires for sensors on the engine so you would need the SS/TC wiring harness to complete the swap.
  • Clutch pedal - The SS/TC clutch pedal has a different return spring mechanism. You might be able to use a standard clutch pedal but this hasn't been confirmed.

There are two other options for getting up and running with a turbocharged Goblin:

  1. Start with a base model donor and add a turbocharger to it. This will require additional hardware (turbocharger, intercooler, injectors, exhaust) and a tune. DF Kit Car is currently working on a turbo kit for the base model to make this process easier. Estimated release is late 2022.
  2. Start with a supercharged donor and swap the supercharger for a turbocharger. This method is often called the LSJ-T swap. DF Kit Car doesn't have any plans to offer an option like this but searching online for LSJ turbo swaps should point you toward useful resources for how this is done.
